Home for the weekend once again

This weekend i am going home again. I did not plan on going back again but my dad just had surgey so i figured i would go se how he is doing. Also, me and my friend Tom are planning on going to Indianapolis this weekend and watching our old cross country team run in the conference meet. Another good thing about going home is that i get to do my laundry for free there. I have an awesome family and i love going home to see them!

My roommate

So i am rooming with guy that i dont know. When i first found out who he was, i was a little intimitdated to be honest. I found out that he was an offensive tackle for the Ball State football team. This means that he is a big guy, and if you know me...im not. After i started talking t him, it turned out that he is a real cool guy, just laid back and real "chill". I always get scared when i come in the room at night because he is always the first one alseep and think that i am going to wake him up and he is going to eat me. But he is a good roommate and im glad they put me with him.

Ishmael Beah

So as most of you know, Ishmael Beah came to BSU this Tuesday to talk about his book, A Long Way gone: Memiors of a Boy Soldier. Reading his book is amazing, but listening to him tell stories about it in real life, is incredible. there were a couple things that i tho0ught were really cool to hear. One thing was when he said, "One day, if we would find an orange that was rotten,, we would think to ourselves, maybe we will find an orange tomorrow that is not rotten" (Ishmael Beah, 2009). I though thtis was cool to hear because even going through a time like he was, dealing with war, he still had incredible hope. I dont even know of people today who have hope like that and we arent even going through anything close to what he was experiencing.
Another thing that i thought was amazing to me, being a christian, was whne he said, "if i am not living my life for someone, then it wasn't worth living for" (Ishmael Beah, 2009). i thought that was really cool because i try to live livew my life by this standard. I try to glorify god iin everything that i do. However, i know i fail a lot of times.

The first all nighterIt

So last night i had to pull my first college all nighter because i had a test to study for. My geology test was scheduled for 8:30 in the morning in Robert Bell. It was about midnight when i found out that i had to retype my rough draft for Englsih because i did not know that we had to save our final draft different than our rough draft. It took me about an hour to retype my rough draft because my computer died when i had around one page to go. I thought that my computer would be able to recover it but, of course, it did not, that would have been to easy. I finished my paper around 1:15 and went back to studying geology. I got around one hour of sleep and had to go take my test. I got a 70% on the test that our profeesor said was the hardest test of the semester. On top of all that, i had to go to work at 10:00 and work for two hours. Now I am sitting in english about to pass out on my computer. i have to go back into work tonight and work for two more hours. I wont be able to sleep until tonight because i have a group project to work on tonight. This is going to be a LOOOONG day

Paintball

So i am on a paintball team called the dirty monkeys. we play in semi-professional tournamentsall over the state, and have even went to surrounding states such as illinois and kentucky. Our team has five regular players and a couple substitutes. Our Captain, Tyler Beard, and my brother, has been playing paintball the longest out of any of the other tem mates. Our team has been together ever since 2004 when i was in eighth grade. We have won many tournaments including taking third place in one of the biggest tournaments in Indiana. Playing paintball witht these guys has given me some awesome memories that i will never forget. I think the one that stics out the most was when we were playing in a tournament in Attica. It was a memorial tournament for a buddy of ours who passed away in a car crash. We had two teams in the tournament. Our teams took first and second place at the tournament. The prize for winning for the combioned two teams was $300. As soon as they handed us the money, we went straight to the parents of the kid who died and gave them the money to help pay for the funeral, it wasnt much, but we did what we could. I plan on continuing to play paintball until i cant play anymore. My goal onbe day is to become the number player in the NPPL, National Professional Paintball League

Working at the Student Center

so this year i was hired as a student worker at the Tally Student Center. I was really excited at first because my brother told me that when he worked on campus at Ball State, that he met alot of cool people that are now his best friends. However, when i got to my first day, the Student Center, like usual was very busy. They did not have even have times to train me. The only thing that told me was to get a shirt and start stockings that were running low. When i went out to look at what need to be filled up, everything in the store was low. When i tried to ask one of the employees there where things were, they rolled their eyes at me and told me in the storage room. That was good information considering the fact we only have four storage rooms. I guess they figured i could find it from there. Things have slowly been getting better there but i still get dirty looks quite often from older employees who work there because they know what they are doing and i dont.

Home for the weekend

So this weekend I got to go home and see my family for the first time in 3 weeks. It was really nice to get to see them because they mean so much to me and I love getting to hagn out with them. They would not stop asking me about how I liked college, which is understandable, but I just wanted to talk about tother stuff. Well I am getting ready now to head back the campus and I am really excited to get back and see my friends but i wish we had a longetr break so that i could see my parents longer, but it was great while i lasted. BSU, I am coming back

Baseball Sectionals

There we were, Getting ready to leave the school to go to the first game of the 2009 high school basball sectionals at lutheran high school. We got ont he bus and no one said a word. Everyone had their headphones in listening to the music that really pumped them up. About ten minutes away from the field, being one of the senior captains, i got up and gave a speech challenging the team to step up and play with all their hearts. I gave them the speech for the movie 300, where Leomitus said, "Give them nothing, but take for them...everything."

When we stepped out on to the field, we had a warm-up better than we had had all year. We were all throwing the ball hard and accurate. Our pitchers were throwing the ball hard, and gettting alot of movement on their breaking balls. After warm-ups our coacjh started danciong around in our huddle trying to get us pumped up, and it worked, to say the least.

The first couple of innings were extremly close with a score of 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Defensively, our team was doing better than they had all year, by making bacour k handed stops, and a diving catch by each one of the outfielders. However, we could not match our offensive play with our defensive play. We only had one hit that i had in the second inning to left field.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the score was 1-0 them. there two outs and i was up to bat with a runner on first. the first two pitches i fouled off to fa;ll behind with a 0-2 count. The next three pitches that he threw me were balls that put the count to 3-2. The very next pitch, even though i knew exactly what he was going to throw, i could not pullt he trigger and watch a curce ball break right into the middle of the strike zone to end the game.

Looking back on the experience of high school baseball, i would not have traded a single moment for something else. All the friends that i keep in contact witht he most are the people that i played high schoolbaseball with. they are some of my best friends and would do anything for them.
